In brief: How the route generator works
- מה זה: A personal route generator for Paris. Answer seven short questions and the route is built in less than two minutes.
- How much does it cost: Completely free. No payment, no subscription, no premium version and no credit card.
- What do I ask in return: An email address only, to send the file. Each email has a one-click uninstall link.
- Where does the information come from: Not from the web, but from a database I built from the site's content: 43 hiking trails, 44 attractions, 98 restaurants, 11 markets, 18 day trip destinations, and 40 accommodation pages by neighborhood.
- How we built today: Geographic continuity (everything that day is within reasonable walking distance), restaurants according to actual distance from the finish point, and one museum per day rather than three.
- You can edit: The route can be changed. Attractions, restaurants, and hiking trails can be added and deleted, and days can be added.
- What do you get: A PDF file that opens on any device, with a day-by-day itinerary, full addresses, estimated visit durations, ticket booking links, and a map at the end.
This tool is completely free. There is no payment, no subscription, no premium version waiting for you at the end, and no credit card. Most similar tools online charge a fee or lock the result behind a monthly subscription. With me, you build a full itinerary, receive it by email as a PDF, and that's it.
Most of the itineraries you find online look the same: the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, a cruise on the Seine, and a restaurant that someone copied from an online rating. I've built a tool here that does something different: it builds you a personal itinerary based solely on the articles I've written on my site : the walking routes I've done on foot, the restaurants I've eaten at, and the attractions I've written full guides about.
The tower is a good example of this. It appears on every itinerary you find, but the time you go up the Eiffel Tower changes the experience more than whether it's on the list at all: an hour before sunset you see Paris in daylight, at sunset, and then illuminated.
Answer seven short questions, and the route will be built before your eyes in less than two minutes. You can edit it, add and remove places, and finally receive it by email as a formatted PDF file that is easy to read on your phone even without internet. I tried to simplify the process as much as possible and make the experience as user-friendly as possible. However, if you have more questions, you are welcome to scroll down and better understand how.
Why is the tool free, and what is the reward?
I don't sell itineraries. I've been writing about France since 2013, and this tool is simply a way to do something useful with all the material already on the site. The only consideration I ask for is an email address, so I can send you the file and the occasional new article. Every email I send has an unsubscribe link, and leaving is one click away.
How the route was built
The tool does not pull information from the web. At its core is a database that I built from the content of the site: 43 walking routes in Paris neighborhoods, 44 attractions, 98 recommended restaurants, 11 markets, 18 day trip destinations outside the city, and 40 accommodation pages by district.
- Geographic continuity. Each route has a start and end point, and the system makes sure that everything that is scheduled for that day is within reasonable walking distance.
- Restaurants on the route. Restaurants are selected based on actual distance from the end point of the walk, not by neighborhood.
- A day you can stand. One museum per day, not three, and a time budget that prevents impossible days
- Accommodation as the anchor point. If you've already booked a hotel, the days work out around it. If not, I'll recommend the areas that will save you the most travel time.
The route you receive is subject to change.
I will do my best to provide you with a quality trip plan, but unfortunately I do not know all your needs and desires. Therefore, in order to help you adapt the plan I gave you to your needs, I allow you to delete and add attractions, restaurants and itineraries to the trip each day. Furthermore, you can add more and more days to the trip and put in all the activities you want. That way, in the end, when you receive the PDF, you will have the perfect itinerary: a combination of my suggestions and your desires.
What do you get in the mail, without paying for it?
A PDF file that opens on any device, with the full day-by-day itinerary, full addresses, estimated visit durations, links to book tickets, and links to my full articles about each place. At the end, there is also a map of articles organized by topic, for reading before your trip.
Who is it suitable for, and who is it not?
The tool is intended for those who want to plan their own trip. On the other hand, if you want a tight and personalized trip plan at the level of what to do every two hours a day, then you may be disappointed. In that case, I recommend that you contact Michal Trafikant , who can tailor a tight trip plan for you that suits your needs 100%.
Questions I am asked about the tool
Is the route really free?
Yes, absolutely. There is no fee, no subscription, and no paid extended version. You leave an email address so I can send you the file, and join my mailing list. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
how long does it take?
Less than two minutes. Seven questions, one question on each screen, and the route appears immediately.
Can I change what the tool suggested?
Absolutely. Each item can be removed, and you can add routes, attractions, restaurants, or destinations outside of Paris from the full database to each day. You can also add a blank day and fill it yourself.
Is the route suitable for families with children?
Yes. If you indicate that you are traveling with children, the system will prioritize shorter routes, parks and attractions that work well with children, and suggest a suitable day trip on longer trips.
Why doesn't the route include all the famous sites?
Because a day that is too busy is a day that you don't enjoy. The system works with a real time budget, and prefers that you see less and enjoy more. What doesn't fit in is waiting for you in the complete Paris guide.
Do they have a similar route planner for other regions in France?
Unfortunately not at the moment, because this route planner is still in beta and there are still quite a few improvements I want to make to it (with your help). When I feel that it is a mature tool, I will try to create similar tools for other regions in France.
Where can I leave feedback about the trip planner?
I would really appreciate any feedback on any issues you may have encountered while using the tool and/or any ideas for new features you would like to add. I would be very happy if you would leave your feedback in the comments below and I will make sure to implement it.
