Anyone who has visited Paris cannot remain indifferent to the Parisians themselves. Personally, I have often enjoyed their pleasant and warm side, but over the years I have also often come across their arrogant, impatient and not-so-pleasant side. It turns out that I am not the only one who has encountered this side of Parisians that has become a kind of cliché to such an extent that the newspaper Le Parisien used it in its series of witty advertisements. So how do you deal with the Parisian character? For example, I wrote A series of tips on how not to annoy the FrenchOlivier Giraud made a comedy stunt show out of it.

Olivier explains how to become French in an hour
So who is Olivier and how did the show come about? Olivier, born in 1977, wanted to become a chef and studied at one of the best cooking schools in France and began working in Paris. In 2001, he moved to work and live in the US, where he began to wonder about the differences in mentality between Americans and the French (and especially the Parisians, who are a special breed of French). While working in the kitchens of some of the leading hotels in the US, Olivier realized that what he really wanted to do was be a comedian, and so he slowly began to build his own show, “How to Become a Parisian in One Hour,” in which he analyzes with venomous and witty humor the behavioral characteristics of the Parisian in all kinds of situations (in a store, a restaurant, a bar, etc.). The show first hit the stage in 2009, and despite everyone in show business in Paris telling him there was no way a show in English could succeed, Olivier began to fill theaters (Olivier was so successful that next year he will be performing at the Olympia, one of Paris' legendary theaters). Here's a small sample from the show in which he explains how to behave like a Parisian in a clothing store:
In September 2015 I got to see his one-man show and understood why it was so successful. Olivier is a comedian with a divine grace who reminds me of Rick Mayell (1958-2014 Rik Mayall) Thanks to his energy and facial expressions. The years he lived in Paris helped Olivier distill the essence of the Parisian, the phlegmatic one we have all encountered, and he manages to bring it to the stage in full “parrow”. And so during the show he laughs at the Parisian attire, the depressed facial expression on the metro, the bad service in restaurants, and the “I’m better than all these provincials” attitude. Olivier does not spare his tribe only from the Parisians but also from the enthusiastic Americans, who constitute a fertile ground for jokes thanks to their naivety, ignorance and complete lack of awareness of the Parisian environment (I guarantee you that you too will cry with laughter when he imitates an American and says “Champs Elysees” instead of Champs Elysees). Like any good performer, he knows how to talk to the audience and activate them, and in response the audience does not stop laughing during the show. Although the show is a great success among both tourists and the French, Olivier is not a star by any means, and at the end of the show you can find him in the theater hallway taking pictures with the audience.

In short, if you are looking for attractions in Paris and are interested in something a little different than usual, I highly recommend you visit Olivier Giraud's website and check out when he is performing next. There is hardly a better way to end a day full of experiences in the City of Lights and who knows, maybe by the end of the show you will become Parisians?
