According to an official announcement from the municipality ParisShopping is the third most popular activity for tourists in the city, surpassed only byMuseum visits AndFree roaming in the streetsAccording to the same publication, there are no fewer than 17 shops and boutiques in Paris.
It’s likely that you didn’t travel specifically to shop in Paris, but if we’re honest with ourselves, each of us “sins” occasionally by glancing at stores abroad. In Paris, men and women are dressed with great taste and the shop windows are wonderful. Therefore, Paris is considered a paradise for shopping, but it is also one of the most expensive cities in the world. In any case, have your credit cards and bank manager ready.

Shopping in Paris – Important Information and Sales 2025
You can shop in all the districts of Paris. Each district has its own commercial character, and each of us has our own specific shopping needs and desires. At first glance, it seems that almost everything in Paris is defined as TRES CHER (very expensive), but with the right approach, a little knowledge, and a little patience, you can definitely get decent things at quite reasonable prices.
Paris offers a variety of shopping options: large malls, old and famous department stores, huge markets and small neighborhood markets, Passages Antiques and numerous small shops on popular streets for shopping.
Our shopping is usually done in two main ways: one, with precise planning in advance, and the other – when we happen to come across a spectacular shop window that invites us to come inside. Paris specializes in designing such windows, so the temptation is often great. Dozens of branches of famous chains that are also sold in Israel are scattered throughout Paris. Among them: Zara, Mango, H&M, Adidas, Celio, Gap, Urban Outfitters and more.
Before you rush out to buy, it's a good idea to compare prices with what's being sold in Israel. It won't always be cheaper in Paris. During the big sales period – definitely yes. The big sales (Soldes) take place in Paris twice a year – in January and July. The exact dates are dictated by the authorities:
- Winter Sales 2025: Starting on January 8 and ending on February 11, 2025.
- Summer 2025 Sales: Expected to start at the end of June.
(More information can be found in the article Shopping in Paris: The Sales You Can't Miss).
Paris is divided by the Seine into the Left Bank (southern) and the Right Bank (northern). Those with a sense of humor know how to say that the Left Bank is the bank for people who think (due to the large number of universities there), while the Right Bank is the bank for people who shop (due to the large number of large department stores). Indeed, most commerce is conducted on the Right Bank, which is more lively and has more diverse shopping options.
Before we start talking about the different stores in Paris, let me address two questions about shopping that come up all the time.Groups dealing with Paris On Facebook:
Opening hours of stores in Paris
Most stores are open Monday-Saturday from 9:30 or 10:00 a.m. to 19:00 or 19:30 p.m. In recent years, large department stores and some malls have also been open on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 19:00 p.m.
VAT Refund for Buyers in Paris – Updated for 2025
Please note an important update: The threshold for receiving a tax refund has dropped significantly in recent years. Today, if you made purchases costing more than100 Euros Per purchase (instead of 175 euros previously), you can receive a tax refund at the Paris airport from which you will return to Israel. To do this, you must meet two conditions:
First, the purchase must be made at a store that offers a tax refund. How do you know if a store offers a tax refund? Very simple. Look for the Global Blue symbol at the entrance to the store. You can shop day after day after day at the same store or brand, as long as the amount reaches 100 euros. You don't have to do it in one purchase, but it must be consistent.
The second condition is to fill out a tax refund form, which can be requested from the store (they will usually ask you for a passport, so come equipped with a photocopy of your passport on your phone).
After you have done this, go to the Tax Refund counter at the airport and they will give you an envelope in which to put all the receipts with the forms from the stores you bought in. Most terminals now have digital PABLO stations that save you the line – just scan the barcode.
You will usually receive the money within about 30 business days to your credit card.
After we're done with the managers, let's move on to the "main course" and start talking about the recommended stores in the different districts of Paris.
Recommended stores in Paris
The beating heart of Paris: Quarters 1-2
The streets of the 1st arrondissement and part of the 2nd arrondissement offer us a rich and varied selection for shopping. Among others, we can mention streets such as: Rue de Rivoli, RUE SAINT HONORE, RUE ETIENNE MARCEL, RUE DU JOUR, RUE MONMARTRE and the Place de la Triumphe area.
Forum Les Halles

Forums La God It is the largest and main shopping center in central Paris. It spans 4 levels. It has changed its face after an 8-year renovation. You can find literally everything here. It has hundreds of stores with all the major international brands, all the fashion chains, many shoe stores, jewelry, cosmetics, a huge FNAC chain store, and also a cinema complex with 27 halls and a large swimming pool.

Metro: THE HALLS
Rue de Rivoli
A short walk from the Forum de la Halle is Rue de Rivoli, which is an excellent place for shopping. On the western side of the Museum ofLouvre UntilPlace de la Concorde It is filled with souvenir and perfume shops. On the other hand, when you walk from the Louvre towards the City Hall, you can find plenty of shops selling international brands, clothing of all kinds, shoes, fashion accessories, jewelry, and more.
Among other things, you will find a huge branch of the cheap chain C&A here. There are also many other intriguing businesses on the side streets that are worth a look. In its eastern part, the street changes its name to Saint Antoine, which also has several stores that may interest you.
Metro: CHATELET
BHV – Bazaar Hotel de Ville

His huge dog, which was named after theHotel de Ville, next to which it is located. This is a very old and impressive shopping institution. Don't be fooled by the word bazaar in its name. There is nothing like a bazaar here. Everything is incredibly organized and of high quality. Don't miss the basement floor specializing in "do it yourself" with a selection like no other. This floor claims to be the place where you can find everything that you can't get anywhere else.
On the other floors you will find: clothing, toys, stationery, home accessories, a professional and extensive art department, and more. Located at 52 Rue Rivoli in the 4th arrondissement, across from Paris City Hall.
Metro: HOTEL DE VILLE.
Carousel Center
Next to the Louvre Museum, on the lower level, is a pleasant underground shopping center with an inverted glass pyramid in the center. It is called the Carrousel du Louvre Center. Its main entrance is at 99 Rue Rivoli, opposite “Benelux”, the famous perfume store. The center is made of luxurious marble, through which you can also enter the Louvre, or just wander among the dozens of shiny and expensive shops.
You will find mainly luxury stores, fashion, jewelry, souvenirs and many boutiques related to art. If it is lunchtime and it is time for a light meal, then you are in the right place and at the right time: the top floor of the Carousel Center is dedicated to ethnic restaurants and cafes. The center is also open on Sunday.
Metro: ROYAL PALACE.
Galignani (Francophile recommendation)
This is the first English bookstore in Paris and has existed on Rue Rivoli since the 19th century, when British tourists would come there to buy books and read the newspaper. Therefore, to this day you can find very comfortable armchairs there that will provide your feet with a rest from the many kilometers they will accumulate during their trip to the City of Lights.
In this store, overlooking the Tuileries Gardens, you will find books in French at the front, but if you go inside you will discover an excellent selection of books in English. Personally, there is hardly a trip to Paris where I don't pop in here for a quick hour.
Metro: Tuileries.
The flower market
Near the CITE metro exit at PLACE LOUIS LEPIN, on the border between the first and fourth arrondissements, is located the oldest flower market in Paris, which has been operating here since 1808. The market is open Monday-Saturday, and on Sundays it becomes a bird market.

Mara District: Quarters 3-4
The narrow and pleasant streets of the Marais district (especially in3th District) are full of fashionable shops and boutiques, designer stores, clothing, galleries, books, housewares and more. It is very pleasant to wander here and find bargains. In the northern part of the Marais, which has been nicknamed 'NOMA', there are many shops of young local designers who have recently taken over the area between the streets of CHARLOT, POITOU and SAINTONGE.
Vintage shopping in the Marais (Friperies)
If you are a fan of second-hand and vintage fashion, the Marais is the place for you. Look for the network Kilo Shop where you pay for clothes by weight, or the Free'p'Star The crowded and crazy place where you can find bargains for just a few euros. This is the place to find leather jackets, Levi's jeans from the 80s, and unique dresses.

Also around Place des Vosges You will find a variety of shops, some of which may interest you. If you are from a religious family and are looking for kosher food or holy items, you should take a look at Rue de Rosier in the Jewish Quarter, which is part of the Marais. The parallel street, Rue Frans Bourgeois, is also quite nice, full of shops and worth a short visit. And also the Rue du Temple that connects them. Most of the shops in the Marais are also open on Sundays.

Recommended stores in the Latin Quarter and Saint-Germain: Quarters 5-6
If you like to wander around while shopping, you're in the right place. The literary uniqueness of the area has somewhat disappeared in recent years and many designers have moved here. Therefore, a wide variety of small and cute shops can be found in the Saint-Germain district (The 6rd District) The prestigious.
Among other things, we can recommend: Boulevard Saint-Germain, RUE ST ANDRE DES ARTS and its surroundings, at No. 59-61 is the Saint-André des Arts trading yard with interesting restaurants and shops. At the end of the street is a small and pleasant food market called De Bussy, a very favorite place for local housewives for their morning shopping. To our right is another attractive street – RUE JACOB – with its variety of small hotels, antique shops, collectors' shops, galleries, art shops, publishing houses and interior design offices, and the continuation is University Street.
The famous and cheap pharmacy in Paris: Citypharma
If you are looking for dermo-cosmetic products (such as La Roche-Posay, Vichy, Bioderma, and more) at prices significantly cheaper than in Israel (and sometimes half the price than the rest of Paris), you must come toCitypharmaThis is a huge and always busy pharmacy located in the heart of the Saint-Germain district. My recommendation: arrive early in the morning when the doors open to avoid the crowds.

On the charming and ancient Rue MOUFFETARD in the 5th arrondissement, you will find a selection of small and relatively inexpensive shops in an intimate, quiet and pleasant atmosphere. At the bottom of the street is the Moffatard Market, open every morning except Mondays. A very fun place to shop in Paris.

The Bookins

These are the booksellers located in the small green pavilions along the Seine River, mainly in the 5th and 1st arrondissements. In the distant past they specialized in rare books, but over time they have changed their business a little and today they also sell photos, paintings and souvenirs to tourists. It is worth comparing prices, as their prices are not always cheap.
SHAKESPEARE AND COMPANY

A Parisian bookstore that is a cultural institution. Partly consisting of small niches filled with books. In fact, it is the most interesting bookstore in Paris with an antique style and a huge variety of new and old books, mainly in English, but there are also books in several other languages, such as: French, German, Italian, Spanish, etc. The place not only hosts commercial activities, but also literary events, reading evenings, conferences, etc. The store is located at 37 RUE DE LA BUCHERIE.

An endless shopping experience.

Here you will find bohemian designers, gift shops, unique boutiques and clothing stores with a young and trendy style. How to get to the canal? On this side there are several passages (galleries) with dozens of shops. The prices are not cheap.
One of the attractions (Champs Elysees No. 70) is the huge perfume store of the French chain SEPHORA. It is recommended to go in, if only to smell and be perfumed by the samples and scent strips. A new branch of Galeries Lafayette has recently opened here (in the former Virgin music store).
The MONOPRIX chain of cheap stores, where you can find basic items, clothing, housewares, cosmetics, perfumes, and food, is represented here with a large, renovated store. Also: The DISNEY STORE is located at 44 Champs-Elysees, and is the main store for Disney products in the city.

The luxury haute couture stores are located, among others, in8th District On AVENUE MONTAIGNE (Armani, Dior, Nina Ricci, Chanel, Ralph Lauren and more) and FAUBOURG ST-HONORE. Usually, the cost of the items sold there makes them “for viewing only,” but even if we don’t go inside, we can be impressed and enjoy the window displays of brands like Dior, Hermes and more.
There are still a few big names left on the Champs-Elysées, such as Louis Vuitton and La Dora. There is one significant advantage to window shopping – it doesn’t affect your bank account. You can just admire the spectacular displays.
The 16rd District
ב16th District Most of the shopping takes place on RUE DE PASSY and RUE DE LA POMPE. Rue Passy is mostly visited by French shoppers and you will hardly see any tourists there, but it is a great place to shop in Paris – it is the main shopping street of this prestigious and quiet district. It has a little bit of everything. You will also find quite a few famous chains there, such as Zara, Gap, Celio and more and the cosmetics store Sephora. On the same street is a neighborhood department store that is a favorite of the locals, called FRANK ET FILS.

Four Seasons Mall at La Défense

It's a pleasure to end an article like this with a warm recommendation about the largest and most beautiful shopping mall in Paris. Although the district La Défense Located across the ring road and therefore not included in the city's official districts, this mall is very accessible and can be reached with a short metro ride.
Anyone who wants to spend half a day shopping in a pleasant, high-quality environment with many options is recommended to come here. In my opinion, this is an ideal place to focus on shopping. The mall includes a very large selection of stores of all sizes and types. All the major international chains and all the famous French chains are represented there with a large selection. Arrival with metro line 1 to the final stop LA DEFENSE GRANDE ARCHE.
Thanks for the detailed article regarding August. Are the stores air-conditioned? I'm mainly interested in districts 1-4, Le Halle? Rivoli?
From what I remember, most stores are air-conditioned, but there is no one rule for all of them.
Simply amazing, thank you very much for the article.
Happily 🙂
A pure pleasure to read this article. It's been a long time since I've come across an article so rich in information about shopping in Paris. It's clear that the guy knows Paris in depth, I really envy him. I enjoyed every word. Thank you.
All that's left is to find your wallet and run shopping. A comprehensive and accurate article. (Suggested for the next article: Outstanding and Famous Boulangerie)

Great information
Great information, excellent detail.
Zvi Shalom
The site recommends:
VILL'UP Mall - A modern, state-of-the-art mall in the 19th district of the city within La Villette.
Big disappointment with the place – the mall is in an area full of refugees hanging around at the exit from the metro station and “staring” at foreigners who are hanging around at the exit in search of the mall.
The mall is small, most of the stores are irrelevant and some are closed.
At 12:00 when we visited the mall, the place was completely deserted and there were almost no beggars to be seen except for the on-site supermarket.
For me, not recommended.
Eli
Thank you so much for all the shopping tips! I want to warn about pickpockets on the Louvre carousel.
This is such a common occurrence that when something like this happens and you contact security, they already have a printed card with the address of the police station in case you want to file a complaint. In my experience, it's a waste of time!
Another tip: keep the destination cards until you're completely out of the station. If you happen to throw them in the trash inside the station and there are inspectors, you'll be asked to pay a minimum of 50 euros. They don't take anything into account!!!!!
Thank you very much for the tips.
Hi, thanks for the great and thorough information. Some sites say that tax refunds in Paris start at 175 euros, here it says 100 euros. Has anything changed? Is there any updated information regarding the purchase amount on which you receive a refund?
Thanks for bringing it to my attention. It used to be 100 euros but now it's 175. The article has been corrected.
I would be happy if you would contact me 054-3456514 Ayelet Lichter
