Centrally located hotels in Paris | My recommendations for 2026
Main Menu

This article deals with a question that is repeated in quite a few Facebook groups: what are the most central locations in Paris and which hotels are recommended to stay in, in each of these locations.

This article contains quite a bit of interesting information that will help you choose the perfect location for your upcoming trip to Paris. However, since not everyone has time to read everything, here are the hotels in the best locations in Paris in my opinion:

🏆 The 3 winning hotels in a central location

🥇

Novotel Paris Les Halles

Most accessible and convenient: Located in the heart of the city (District 1), above the central railway junction of ParisIdeal for families and those who want to get anywhere quickly.

🥈

Nice Hotel

Most romantic: A boutique hotel with gorgeous design in the heart of the Marais and on Rue Rivoli. The perfect location for lovers of cafes, fashion and atmosphere.

🥉

Hotel Saint Pierre

Most profitable: A modest hotel in a prestigious location (Saint Germain). Allows you to sleep in the center of things, near the gardens and restaurants, without breaking the bank.

Quite a few people who travel to the City of Lights ask other travelers for recommendations on Hotels in Paris In a central location. And what do those travelers get? A list of hotels in all sorts of unrelated neighborhoods of Paris. The result? Confusion and quite a bit of frustration.

My goal is to solve this problem and try to not only answer the question of whether there is such a thing as a “centrally located hotel in Paris” (the answer is no), but to help you find hotels in a great location and even recommend some of them to you.

Is there such a thing as centrally located hotels in Paris?

What makes it difficult for people looking for a centrally located hotel in Paris? The reason is simple. Paris is not a small town but a metropolis, and as such it does not have one center, but a series of centers, some of which are quite far apart. Here are some examples:

  • Ile de la Cite and Ile Saint Louis.
  • The Louvre area and Rue Rivoli.
  • Saint Germain area.
  • The Latin Quarter.
  • The Mara area, which itself is so large that it is divided into two parts.
  • Montmartre and the renewed and chic Pigalle area next to it.
  • The area near Eiffel Tower (Yes, for quite a few people this is considered the center of Paris).
  • The Champs-Elysees (another area that quite a few Israelis consider a central place).

Hence, even if you live in the "center of the city", i.e. the Ile de la Cité, you still won't be able to reach some of the other, equally important centers of Paris on foot.

Hotels near Boulevard Saint-Germain (Left Bank)

The part where Boulevard Saint-Germain meets Boulevard Saint-Michel is one of the central places in Paris. This is due to its proximity to attractions such as Luxembourg Gardens, Notre Dame Cathedral, etc., and the fact that it is one of the liveliest places in Paris, thanks to its restaurants and cafes. The following hotels take full advantage of this great location.

Hotel Saint Pierre

I started my series of recommendations with a cheap hotel, which may not necessarily suit a significant portion of the readers here, who are looking for comfort and luxury (those looking for something more luxurious are welcome to continue scrolling a little further and find 4-star hotels and above). The reason for this is that it is a simple location and a very friendly price, which is not easy to find in the Saint-Germain district, one of the most expensive districts in Paris.

💡 The Francophile's tip:
It's no wonder this is my dear friend Yoel Tamanlis' favorite hotel. Its location is simply unbeatable – almost adjacent to Boulevards Saint-Germain and Saint-Michel, and close to the Luxembourg Gardens.

Why is this hotel recommended?

  • Geographic location: Located almost adjacent to the Boulevards Saint-Germain and Saint-Michel. Located right near the Latin Quarter, Luxembourg Gardens And a short walk to Notre Dame Cathedral and the Right Bank. In short – a celebration.
  • transportation: It is located very close to the Odeon metro, where lines 4 and 10 pass. Within walking distance is the Saint Michel metro, from which you can reach the palace. Versailles, Eiffel Tower, Charles de Gaulle Airport and more.
  • Culinary: There are quite a few restaurants and entertainment venues within a short distance. Within a short walk you can also reach Chez Georges, a charming little wine bar.
  • Atmosphere: The hotel's street is quiet and safe, but it is one of the most vibrant areas in Paris.

Recommended hotels in Rue Rivoli and the Marais

When I think of the center, I immediately think of the eastern part of Rue Rivoli. The Seine River is a few minutes walk away and from there – a quick hop and you are on the Ile de la Cité and the Left Bank. Also, famous neighborhoods of Paris like the Marais district and important attractions like The Louvre Museum Or the Pompidou Center are a 10-minute walk away.

Nice Hotel

Without a doubt one of the hotels with the most original design I've stayed in. Beyond the beauty and attentive service, this is a hotel with one of the best locations in Paris.

💡 The Francophile's tip:
The hotel is located in a very lively area. This is a safety advantage, but can be noisy. Despite the sealed windows, I would recommend choosing to stay on one of the quieter upper floors to be on the safe side.

Why is this hotel recommended?

  • Geographic location: Located on Rue Rivoli, one of the main streets in Paris. Adjacent to the Marais and a short walk to the Louvre, Notre Dame and the Left Bank.
  • transportation: It is located very close to the Hôtel de Ville station where lines 1 and 11 pass. Line 1 is a very central line that can easily take you to the Champs Elysées or La Défense.
  • Culinary: Very close to the hotel there are quite a few restaurants of various types and there is also an excellent ice cream parlor right behind it.
  • Shopping: There are quite a few shops on Rue Rivoli and the Marais itself has less touristy boutiques. The large BHV department store is a very short walk away.

Paris France Hotel

The northern Marais area has a very warm spot in my heart, because this is where my renewed love story with Paris began. This is a well-loved old hotel that offers excellent value for money.

💡 The Francophile's tip:
The real highlight in terms of transportation is the proximity to the Republique metro, where lines 3, 5, 8, 9, and 11 pass, which can take you to quite a few places in Paris easily and quickly.

Why is this hotel recommended?

  • Geographic location: Located adjacent to the northern part of the Marais and a few minutes' walk from the Canal Saint-Martin and its many entertainment venues.
  • Culinary: The hotel is a very short walk from the Red Children's Market. The market area has quite a few excellent food shops and restaurants.
  • Atmosphere: The northern Marais area is completely safe. Be aware that there may be less than nice people walking around in the Republic area in the evening.

Hotels in the LES HALLES area – the belly of Paris

The former wholesale market area (Les Halles) is, in my opinion, one of the most central and recommended places. Here you will find endless culinary establishments (food stores and restaurants), a metro station and a suburban train that will help you get to interesting places.

Novotel Paris Les Halles

This is one of the most popular hotels among Israelis, thanks to its excellent location. There are several excellent reasons for this.

💡 The Francophile's tip:
This is one of the recommended areas for foodies thanks to Montorgueil Street with its many restaurants and food shops. If you are a cook, on the streets Montmartre And there are quite a few famous kitchenware stores in the area.

Why is this hotel recommended?

  • Geographic location: The hotel is right in the beating heart of Paris. Walking distance from the Louvre, Center Pompidou, the Marais, but also from the Seine.
  • transportation: It is located very close to the LES HALLES metro station, which can be reached directly by train from Charles De Gaulle Airport. The RER A train passes here, which will take you to EuroDisney.
  • Shopping: Right next to you you will find the LES HALLES mall, one of the largest malls in Paris.

Hotels near Notre Dame Cathedral

Notre Dame Cathedral is in the heart of Paris and is located on the Ile de la Cité. While you won't find hotels on the Ile de la Cité, if you just cross the bridge south towards the Latin Quarter, you will find a number of recommended hotels in the area.

Europe Saint Severin-Paris Notre Dame

A very nice three-star hotel for which I received quite a few recommendations. The rooms are small (as in a very large number of Paris hotels), but the location, ladies and gentlemen, the location…

💡 The Francophile's tip:
Note: This area (La Huchette Street) is full of restaurants, but most of them are mediocre tourist traps. For really good restaurants, it is recommended to walk a little to the Boulevard Saint-Germain area.

Why is this hotel recommended?

  • Geographic location: Located very close to Notre Dame Cathedral and the Latin Quarter. Saint-Germain district It is a short walk away.
  • transportation: The hotel is very close to the Saint Michel – Notre Dame station, where line 4, RER B (to the airport) and RER C (to Versailles) pass.
  • Atmosphere: A very lively and touristy area. Great for those who like to live in the middle of all the action.

Hotels near Opéra Garnier

The Opera district is considered one of the central areas of Paris, and for good reason. It borders the 2nd and 1st arrondissements, with their many attractions, and is close to the famous department stores.

Daunou Opera

The Daunou Opera Hotel is indeed located near the Opera, and as such enjoys a number of advantages in terms of location.

💡 The Francophile's tip:
Japanese food lovers will particularly enjoy the selection of restaurants on Rue Saint Anne, not far from the hotel. For a more upscale atmosphere at night, head to nearby Place Vendôme.

Why is this hotel recommended?

  • Geographic location: The hotel is located in the 2nd arrondissement right on the border with the 9th arrondissement. This means you can easily reach the opera, the department stores or stroll through the 1st arrondissement.
  • transportation: The hotel is located not far from three metro stations: Opera, Quatre Septembre and Pyramides. This allows you to enjoy lines 3, 7, 8 and 14.
  • Shopping: The location allows easy access to Galeries Lafayette and Prentice Hall (highly recommended especially at Christmas time).

Hotels near Eiffel Tower

There are quite a few people who insist on living near the Eiffel Tower. I never understood why it is so important, after all, you can see it from everywhere. However, “the voice of the crowd is enough,” so I brought you a recommendation that is really close to it.

Hotel Eiffel Turenne

This is a solid hotel, which received excellent reviews on Booking.com and allows you to get to the tower easily and quickly.

💡 The Francophile's tip:
Foodies will enjoy the hotel's location near Rue Cler, one of the most important culinary streets in Paris. Also, if you like Art Nouveau architecture, you'll be in for a pleasant surprise in the area.

Why is this hotel recommended?

  • Geographic location: The hotel is near the Eiffel Tower and you can walk to the palace from there. The invalid and the Rodin Museum or Les Seines.
  • transportation: The hotel is very close to the École Militaire metro station. On the other hand, only one line (number 8) passes through it.
  • Atmosphere: The Seventh District is a prestigious and very safe area. The area is quiet and the atmosphere is pleasant.

Hotels on the Champs Elysees

Following on from what I wrote about people who insist on living near the Eiffel Tower, let me write the same thing about people who insist on living near the Champs-Elysees. But if you insist on living there, here's a pretty good option.

Hotel Galileo Champs Elysees

This is a nice and cozy 3-star hotel, which has received good reviews on Booking.com and is located very close to the Champs Elysees.

💡 The Francophile's tip:
The western part of the Champs-Elysées (near Arc de Triomphe) It is a lively area during the day, but in the evening, less pleasant types sometimes come there. Keep this in mind.

Why is this hotel recommended?

  • Geographic location: The hotel is a short walk from the Champs-Elysées and the Arc de Triomphe. From here you can easily reach the wonderful Parc Monceau.
  • transportation: The hotel is close to the Arc de Triomphe and the Charles de Gaulle–Étoile station, which is served by lines 1, 2 and 6. This will allow you to easily reach a variety of places in Paris.

Hotels near Louvre Museum

I left my favorite quarter almost until last. This is the western part of Rue Rivoli, closest to the Louvre Museum, Place Vendome, the Tuileries Gardens and more. Let's start with a hotel that isn't cheap, but one that I really like and highly recommend.

Hôtel Brighton – Esprit de France

Here we move into the league of expensive and luxurious hotels in Paris and I decided to start with the Brighton Hotel. The reason is that I lived there in 1999 and I have missed it ever since. When you see the location you will understand why…

💡 The Francophile's tip:
If you are lucky enough to get a room overlooking the gardens, you can see them from your window. This is a huge plus. Also, if you haven't been to ANGELINA'S TEA HOUSE, which is not far away, then you really owe it to yourself to visit.

Why is this hotel recommended?

  • Geographic location: Located opposite the magical Tuileries Gardens and very close to the Jeux de Paume, l'Orangerie and of course the Louvre museums.
  • transportation: The hotel is adjacent to the Tuileries station, where line 1 passes. Place de la Concorde It is within walking distance of the hotel.
  • Shopping: On one hand, you will find a touristy area that Rivoli Street is full of. On the other hand, you will find an endless number of high fashion stores in the nearby Place Vendome.

Hotels in Montparnasse – Bonus for Advanced Users

Apparently, the Montparnasse district (the 14th arrondissement), located in the southern part of Paris, is not considered a central district, but this is not true because the part bordering the 6th arrondissement allows you to reach the Luxembourg Gardens and the super-central Saint-Germain district within about fifteen minutes on foot. This is why “progressive Francophiles” like me prefer to live in this district.

Hotel Aiglon

I stayed at this hotel in September 2021, and enjoyed not only the excellent service and delicious breakfast but also one of the best locations in Paris (in my opinion).

💡 The Francophile's tip:
True, the hotel is located next to the Montparnasse cemetery, but hey, your neighbors will be extra quiet :-). Joking aside, the cafes and restaurants on the nearby Rue Gaîté will give you a warm and authentic Parisian atmosphere.

Why is this hotel recommended?

  • Geographic location: The hotel is located in the beating heart of Montparnasse, near quite a few legendary restaurants and cafes (such as Cafe Dom or Cafe Select).
  • transportation: The hotel is a few seconds walk from Raspaille metro, from where you can easily reach the Ile de la Cité and the Right Bank (line 4) or the Eiffel Tower (line 6).

Hotels in the 12th arrondissement – a bonus for advanced users

Prices in the 12th arrondissement are lower than in central districts, but if you live near Gare de Lyon or Place de la Bastille, you can get to the center of Paris quickly and easily. This is a great solution for those who want to save money without compromising on accessibility.

Holiday Inn Paris – Gare de Lyon Bastille

I stayed at this hotel in October 2025 and I highly recommend it. Its location is extremely strategic and allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds.

💡 The Francophile's tip:
The advantages here are huge: walking distance from Bastille (and from there to the Marais), and a short walk to Gare de Lyon, from where there is a direct train to Disneyland (RER A) and metro to the center (lines 1 and 14). The icing on the cake? It's within walking distance of the Allegre Market, my favorite food market in Paris.

Frequently asked questions about hotels in central Paris (FAQ)

Just before you close the invitation, I have compiled for you some questions that I receive over and over again in our community, with honest answers (and among us? the most practical ones).

Which area is most recommended for first-time travelers to Paris?

If this is your first time and you want to feel the famous “magic”, I would recommend 6th arrondissement (Saint-Germain) או The 4th District (The Mara)These are areas that combine historic beauty, great cafes, and walking distance to most of the main attractions.

Where should you sleep with children in Paris?

For families, convenience is king. That's why I highly recommend the area Les Halles (1st arrondissement) או Gare de Lyon (12th arrondissement)The reason? Perfect transport connections (direct RER train to Disneyland and the airport) and proximity to parks and supermarkets.

Is it safe to sleep in the center of Paris?

In general – yes, Paris is very safe. However, as I mentioned in the article, there are areas like Chatelet (Late night) or area Gare du Nord which are less sympathetic. The areas I recommended here (Saint Germain, Marais, District 7) are considered safe and pleasant even in the evening.

  1. La Défense was really nice for shopping once, but today it has deteriorated and is unpleasant, in my opinion not recommended!
