The 20th arrondissement is, in my opinion, “Paris for the advanced.” I lived there (near the Alexandre Dumas metro station) and really enjoyed the community atmosphere and the affordable prices. It’s not the classic district of the average tourist, and that’s exactly its charm.
The big advantage here is The price – You will find hotels here at much more reasonable prices than in the city center. The second advantage is Authenticity: A fascinating combination of old villages swallowed by the city, vibrant street art in the Belleville neighborhood, and of course – Pere La Chaise Cemetery, which is one of the most beautiful and exciting gardens in Paris. If you're looking to feel like a local and save money, the 20th arrondissement is a great choice.
