The Francophile's tips for a perfect family trip
🚍 Transportation: Stroller on the metro? Better not.
Paris with a stroller on the metro can be a nightmare (lots of stairs, few elevators). My tip: take the buses! It’s convenient, accessible for strollers, and you get a free tour of the city along the way. Line 69, for example, is a real tourist bus for the price of a regular ticket. If you still take the metro – try to avoid rush hours (8:00-10:00 and 17:00-19:00).
🍽️ Eat with kids like locals
Afraid of “serious” restaurants with kids? The perfect solution is the “Bouillon” restaurants (like Bouillon Chartier or Pigalle). They’re loud, happy, serve classic French food, and are cheap, and the service is fast – which is critical with hungry kids.
To my list of recommended restaurants (including Bouillon) »Golden tip: Always keep a bag of lollipops for flights and moments of crisis.
☔ What do you do when it rains? (Plan B)
Don't stay at the hotel! You can take the kids to Rex Studios for an interactive behind-the-scenes tour of the cinema. My top recommendation: Escape to
Covered Passages (Passages Couverts) – Ancient shopping streets with glass roofs, old-fashioned toy stores and a dry, pleasant time machine atmosphere.
🏛️ Museums that won't bore them
Is the Louvre crowded? Try the Petit Palais. Admission to the permanent collection is free, the building is beautiful and there's a charming interior garden for parents' coffee. For tech and gadget lovers, the Arts et Métiers Museum is a paradise with old planes and vintage cars.

🛡️ Safety and peace of mind
Paris is safe, but in crowded areas (in front of the Eiffel Tower or in the metro) keep an eye on your bags. Watch out for the “petition scam” – people who will ask you to sign a piece of paper to distract you. Just say a firm “Non” and keep walking confidently.
Questions and Answers (FAQ)
At what age should you take children to Paris?
Paris is suitable for all ages! With babies, you can comfortably stroll through parks (like Luxembourg), and children aged 5-6 will greatly enjoy the monuments (Eiffel), the Seine cruise, and the interactive attractions like the City of Science.
Are there discounts for children at attractions?
Absolutely. In most museums and national monuments (like the Louvre,
Versailles and the Arc de Triomphe) Admission is free for children and youth under 18 (and for EU residents up to 26). Private attractions (such as Disneyland) have discounted tickets for children.
