Recommended apartments in the 14th arrondissement of Paris (Montparnasse)

A compact and functional studio for a couple, with good-quality furnishings and a price that is one of the most reasonable on our lists. The location is close to the Montparnasse junction, and those who plan to combine Paris with trips out of the city will find a real advantage here: high-speed trains to Brittany, the Loire, and southwest France depart from Montparnasse station, and you don't have to drag luggage through half the city on the morning of your trip. Lines 4, 6, 12, and 13 meet at the station, meaning that even within Paris you can get to almost anywhere without changing. Note that a studio means one space without a separation between sleeping and living room, so it's for a couple and not more. I recommend it for a couple who are staying a few nights and using the apartment mainly for sleeping.

The apartment is located near Rue de la Gaîté, and anyone who loves theater like me will immediately understand why this is significant: it is the historic theater street of Montparnasse, where the Montparnasse, Bovino, and Rive Gauche theaters still operate today, minutes away from each other. All around are the great brasseries of Montparnasse, the ones that in the 1920s were home to Modigliani, Picasso, and Hemingway. The train station and metro are just minutes away. And that's also the obvious caveat: Rue de la Gaîté is an entertainment street, and on weekend evenings it's noisy until late. I recommend asking for a unit facing the inner courtyard, and not giving up on it.

A relatively large apartment at a price that you can't get closer to the center, so it makes sense especially for a large family who counts meters rather than minutes of walking. The area in the south of the 14th arrondissement is quiet and truly residential: apartment buildings, neighborhood containers and very few tourists, which is worth something after a day in the Louvre queues. From here, continue to Montparnasse in a few minutes by metro, and from there anywhere in the city. It's worth knowing that the Rue Daguerre food market, one of the most beautiful neighborhood markets in Paris, is in this district. Be aware that you are far from the historic center and depend on the metro for every exit, including the return at night. I recommend it for a large family who comes for a week and considers cost versus space.
