We all know the French Queen Marie Antoinette. We know the films made about her, we know her love of cakes and we have even heard one puzzling sentence she said (or maybe not at all…) about bread and cakes. But do we know that Marie Antoinette is not only considered the “fashion queen” of history, but that she had an equally famous fashion heiress – Empress Josephine Bonaparte, the wife of Napoleon Bonaparte himself.

So how are these two women, who lived on opposite sides of the political map in France, connected? And how do they continue to influence fashion and aesthetics today, over 200 years after their deaths?

In the lecture “FromMarie Antoinette "To Josephine" we will discover who the real Marie Antoinette was and how the fascinating love story of Josephine and Napoleon unfolded. We will see how fashion and aesthetics influenced and shaped the lives of these two women? And we will discover how each of these women used fashion and clothing to establish themselves, express their positions and continue to influence the biggest trends in fashion and popular culture even in 2022.
