Recommended restaurants in Malta 2025 (Valletta, Sliema and St. Julian's)
Main Menu

I lived in Malta between 2018 and 2019, and even though I returned to Israel, I still get to visit Malta at least twice a year, since most of my clients live there (when I'm not writing about France, I work for Playtech as a commercial manager). As a result, I've eaten at quite a few restaurants in Malta, most of which are pretty mediocre, but fortunately, every once in a while I've also discovered some great restaurants, which I return to again and again, during my visits to the island.

In this article you will find these restaurants located in Valletta (my favorite city in Malta), Sliema (where I lived so I know the place well) and St. Julian's (where most of my clients' offices are located so it was important for me to find restaurants suitable for business meals). Just like the Paris restaurants page, I intend to update this page every time I visit Malta, so it is definitely recommended to come back here as close to your trip as possible.

One last thing, before we begin, it's important to note that not all of the restaurants I'll be recommending serve Maltese cuisine. However, if you happen to eat at a Maltese restaurant I recommend, you should definitely read this article. About the cuisine of Malta, in order to get to know the different dishes that characterize the island and know what to order and what not to order.

And now let's start with the recommendations!

Recommended restaurants in Valletta

I decided to start with Valletta because as tourists you will most likely spend at least one day there, and maybe even You will live there. So here are my favorite restaurants in the capital. Malta.

kaiseki

My favorite restaurant is Buleta! An interesting combination of Asian and Mediterranean cuisine that provides us with unusual but very tasty dishes (don't miss the Dim Sum shrimp and shiitake mushrooms with pecorino cheese). Add to that excellent service and you'll understand why I try to invite my best customers there.

An intimate Maltese restaurant beloved by many islanders, it has been around since 2003. It is a classic Slow Food cuisine and the menu changes every season, so I don't know what you will be served when you visit there. I can say that the food I ate there was a combination of Maltese cuisine with French touches and it was very tasty.

Recommended restaurants in Sliema

I lived in Sliema, so I had the chance to eat here quite a bit. Since I definitely recommend it To live in SliemaBecause of the convenient location and relatively affordable hotel prices, I decided to bring here a number of restaurants where I usually eat, in case you are looking for a good place for dinner.

Ta Kris

This is in my opinion the best Maltese restaurant in Malta. It is hidden in a small alley and very easy to miss, but if you come here you will not regret it. Highly recommend the Maltese Platter (Cheeses and Maltese sausages along with Maltese bread and spreads) and for their bregioli dish (a recipe for minced meatballs in tomato sauce). Is it any wonder that this is one of my favorite places for business meals with clients?

I discovered this restaurant in April 2025 when I was looking for a quiet and pleasant place to have dinner with clients. It is a bistro restaurant that ranges between Italian, Maltese and French cuisine. The result: great food, excellent service and very reasonable prices, compared to what you get. I especially liked the shrimp dish in mango sauce, which is served with a Belgian waffle. It may sound strange but it was one of the most delicious dishes I have ever eaten in Malta.

The Borscht

If you're a bit tired of Maltese/Italian food, here's a completely different and simply wonderful option. The Borsch restaurant is located on the promenade of Sliema and serves Ukrainian and Eastern European cuisine. I had (surprisingly) excellent borscht soup there, served with sourdough black bread and butter, which were so delicious that I asked for extra.

In short, if the Ashkenazim among my readers miss the food from Grandma's house or if you are ready to try something completely different, this restaurant is an excellent option.

Recommended restaurants in St. Julian's

I come to St. Julian's because quite a few of my clients have offices there, but quite a few Israelis like to live there because it's an area with a vibrant nightlife. So if you happen to live in St. Julian's, here are some restaurants I recommend.

Relais de Paris

Here is a restaurant that will immediately attract the attention of all lovers of ParisOne of the legendary restaurants in the City of Lights is Relais de Venise, famous for its entrecote served with a secret green sauce. A restaurant recently opened in Saint-Julien that serves exactly the same steak and sauce (the owner was granted a franchise to use the original sauce and his chef trained at a restaurant in Paris so he could provide the same experience).

I had a business meal here with a client of mine. The price wasn't cheap (42 euros per person) but the entrecote was excellent and came, as is tradition, with a lettuce salad as a starter. I was told that on weekend evenings there are Arabs who try the place, but I'll let you find out.

This is a steakhouse that focuses on At the Corinthia Hotel Not far from hotel Radisson Blu, Come I love to stay. I had one of the best meals I had in Malta with clients here and was impressed not only by the taste of the dishes but also by the aesthetics of the presentation and the attentive service. In short, a restaurant that is not cheap but excellent.

This is Caviar & Bull's seafood restaurant, just a few steps away. It maintains the exact same standards as its sister restaurant, serving simply wonderful food (especially the salt-baked Red Snapper, which the waiter slices for you at your table).

Not cheap at all but in my opinion worth every euro.

One of the best steakhouses in Malta, with a view overlooking Spinola Bay in St. Julian's. Excellent food and very good service, have made it one of my favorite restaurants for events where I host a relatively large number of clients (but the place is also great for a romantic meal for two).

If for a moment you get tired of seafood or Maltese cuisine and suddenly crave Georgian food, you'll be happy to discover that not so long ago, a restaurant just like this opened in Malta.

The restaurant is located not far from Spinola Bay, one of the most touristy places in St. Julian's and serves great Georgian food. I had a spicy kharcho soup there and then a couple of khinkali with a great meat filling. The service and atmosphere were also good, so I definitely recommend this place.

A Thai restaurant hidden away in one of the alleys of St. Julian's (on the same street as the Mistral Hotel where I stayed). The food here is excellent, the portions are generous, the service is friendly and the prices are reasonable. If you're missing Asian food, then this place is a good and inexpensive option.

Recommended restaurants in other places in Malta

Every now and then I get to eat outside of these three cities and every time I find a good place, I bring it here.

Step 15 (Rabat)

There are quite a few restaurants in the Amedina and Rabat, but many of them are tourist traps. If you want to find really high-quality restaurants, you have to go a little outside the city limits of Rabat, and then you discover gems like Step15.

This is a bistronomic restaurant that serves Maltese food with a twist. Everything we ate there was great (I especially loved the three starters, each of which is a “bite” with a great combination of flavours). The portions themselves are also very generous (we ate half of the seafood risotto and couldn’t finish it because of the size) and the service is excellent.

In short, you may not see the walls of Amedina or the view, but you will get excellent food, and that, to me, is an excellent deal.

Address: 22 Telgha Tas-Saqqajja, Ir-Rabat

Opening Hours: Every day, except Sunday, from 12:00-14:30 and from 18:00-21:30. On Sunday the place is open from 12:00-15:00.

Crystal Palace (Rabat)

Well, it's not really a restaurant, although you can eat there sitting down, but I still decided to recommend the place for two reasons:

  1. You can have a light and very cheap lunch here.
  2. In my opinion, this is where they make the best pastis in Malta (what is pastis? Read the The article about Maltese food).

As you'll notice, from the moment the place opened there was a line (mostly locals) waiting to get different types of fresh pastis. I had one with chicken and one with anchovies and both were excellent (I liked the one with the anchovies a little better), but there are also pastis with gardenia, peas and more.

In short, this is a culinary street food institution, and when you arrive in Rabat, don't miss it.

Address: Triq San Pawl, Rabat

Opening days and hours: Every day 24 hours a day (at least that's what Google said).

Il-Kċina Għawdxija (Gozo)

A good friend of mine from Malta told me that if you go to Gozo, you must eat at one of the fish restaurants in the town of Xlendi, which is right on the beach and overlooks a magical bay.

Unfortunately, due to logistical reasons, we had to eat in Vitoria in some tourist trap, but I didn't give up and in the evening we went to Shalandi and there we ate at Il-Kċina Għawdxija (please don't ask me to try to write the transcription of this in Hebrew 🙂).

Since it was a light dinner, we didn't try the selection of fresh fish the restaurant had to offer, but went for a Maltese platter and aliota soup, both of which were excellent (although, in my opinion, those at Te Kris restaurant in Sliema were slightly better).

I promise that next time I come to Gozo I will go and sample this restaurant more seriously, but in the meantime I will leave you with the recommendation.

Address: Il-Kċina Għawdxija, Munxar

Opening Hours: Monday to Friday 11:00-17:00, Saturday from 11:00-22:00 and Sunday from 10:00-17:00.
