Do you sometimes close your eyes, imagine the smell of a warm croissant just out of the oven, and hear the sounds of an accordion playing in the distance on the banks of the Seine? Longing for Paris is a phenomenon that is very difficult to explain to those who have not yet contracted the French bug. But, until we can all pack our bags, fly, and leisurely wander the wide boulevards and cobblestone streets of the City of Lights again, I decided to take action and bring Paris directly to your living room.
I am excited to invite you to a series of immersive and fascinating virtual lectures that will take us on a journey through time. Instead of another routine and familiar tour of classic tourist sites, we are going to dive into the bowels of history and walk in the footsteps of three of the most colorful, outrageous and fascinating characters to ever walk the streets of the city. The lectures are accompanied by photos, ancient maps and stories that you will not find in the usual travel guides.
👑 1. Bonaparte's Paris: In the footsteps of Napoleon
It's impossible to talk about Paris without feeling the powerful presence of the most famous French emperor of all. In this lecture, we'll traverse the length and breadth of Paris, hopping between the Right Bank and the Left Bank, and discover the city through his ambitious eyes. Here are just a few of the many places we'll visit:
- We will visit the magnificent monuments associated with him and designed to glorify his name, such as Arc de Triomphe The iconic one that looks down on the city from above.
- We will dive into his personal life: we will discover the intimate secrets of the Palais Royal (where, believe it or not, the young Napoleon lost his virginity one night).
- We will follow the dramatic assassination attempt on Saint-Nicolas Street, where we will discover how one small “bomb cart” almost took his life and completely changed the course of the history of all of Europe.
🎭 2. Paris of Comedy: Following Molière
The French theater genius not only wrote hilarious plays that became a household name, he also lived a turbulent life himself, full of passion and drama in 17th-century Paris. In this lecture, we will follow in his footsteps and experience the vibrant France of that period.
- We will visit the main stations of his life - we will discover where exactly he studied and was inspired, where he staged his first plays (not always with great success, it should be noted), and in which picturesque inn he most loved to sit and drink with his bohemian friends.
- We will reveal the real locations that stood behind his great plays: we will tour the magnificent palace of the French nouveau riche, which was a clear inspiration for the immortal play "He, too, among the nobles." We will visit the oldest apothecary house in Paris and see how it is related to "The Imaginary Patient" (because it turns out that hypochondria was as trendy then as it is today).
💌 3. Gossip Paris: In the footsteps of Madame de Savigny
Get the alien wig ready, because we're about to go deep into Marais District The prestigious. There is no better guide to this area than the Marquise, whose witty letters were no less than the most official and heated “gossip columns” of the court of King Louis XIV. Here is a snippet of what you will discover in the lecture:
- We will tour her magnificent house, which still stands in the Marais today, and later became a museum of the history of Paris.
- We will peek into the homes of her famous friends and delve into the depths of the period scandals that rocked the French aristocracy.
- It's impossible to end without a bit of crime, betrayal and passion: we'll visit the home of the Marquise de Brinville, who systematically poisoned her family (definitely not recommended to try at home), and the lair of the famous and unstoppable courtesan, Ninon de l'Anclo, who managed to seduce both her husband and Madame de Savignier's son at the same time! (I told you it would be hot, right?).
