Aix En Provence is a charming city that I fell in love with at first sight (despite the torrential rain that didn't stop falling throughout the first day).
So it's no surprise that I recommend it to anyone planning a star trip to the South and West. Provence Use Aix-en-Provence as a base for star trips. In this article I will recommend several hotels in Aix-en-Provence and also vacation apartments (if you are coming with a family), but first let me answer the question of why you should choose Aix-en-Provence as a base for your next trip to Provence.
Secrets of Le Marais: A Journey into the Historic and Chic Heart of Paris
Join us on a virtual journey to the most fascinating district in Paris. Together we will discover hidden courtyards, French nobility, and the true stories behind the magnificent facades.
Three reasons
To live in Aix-en-Provence
Location, location, location
If you look at the map, you will see that Aix-en-Provence is located simply wonderfully. It is close to Marseille airport (even closer than Marseille itself, to be honest) so you can get there right after landing (if you landed at night, I recommend taking a hotel at the airport and coming to Aix the next morning. Personally, I lived In this hotel And I was definitely satisfied.
However, beyond its proximity to Marseille, you will find that Aix-en-Provence is close to quite a few other interesting places. Here are some examples (times are for travel by car):
- Cassis – 44 minutes
- Luberon area – about an hour
- Avignon – about an hour
- Earl – about an hour and twenty minutes
- Nice – About two hours
Excellent public transportation
If you don't feel like renting a car, you'll be happy to know that Aix has an excellent train service (when it's not on strike, of course) from which you can easily reach any interesting city or town in Provence. If you decide to get around by public transportation, then I recommend my article on Trains in France There you will find useful information and you can buy tickets cheaply.
Aix-en-Provence is just a fun city.
As I wrote at the beginning of the article, I fell in love with Aix-en-Provence from the first moment, and anyone who knows me knows that it's not easy to make me fall in love with a city that isn't ParisSo what made me fall in love with this city?
- Architectural beauty
- Fascinating history
- Food markets and a wide variety of restaurants
- Interesting museums and attractions
Recommended hotels in Aix-en-Provence
Nurit Gaon's estate (Domain de Cinq Jardins)
Before we start with the hotels and apartments within the city of Aix, let me recommend a charming mansion located not far from the city.
Beyond the fact that it is a 16th-century mansion, with a pool and many other perks, its biggest plus is that it is run by my dear friend Nurit Gaon, a charming Israeli, who, among other things, guides tours in the city of Aix (you can read about her in the article What to do in Aix-en-Provence and beyond).
In short, before you continue, do yourself a favor and check if there is a room available, because if you are lucky and the hotel is not fully booked, I promise you that you are set 🙂

Although the connection between this modern hotel and the Renaissance period is purely coincidental, none of this prevents me from highly recommending it.

Recommendations for vacation apartments in Aix-en-Provence
If you are traveling with an extended family, hotels may become a relatively expensive option for you.
On a family trip, it is recommended to check out the option of renting a vacation apartment in Aix-en-Provence, because a good apartment has additional advantages, including the feeling of living like a local for a few days and the ability to cook (Aix-en-Provence has great food markets and it is recommended to take advantage of this).
I have arranged the apartments by size, from small studios to large apartments that can accommodate families with several children, so you can quickly find exactly what suits you.
