Chateau Milandes is a Renaissance-style castle built in the 15th century. Over the years, it passed from one noble dynasty to another, until in 1937 it was rented and later purchased by the famous African-American cabaret singer Josephine Baker. Josephine was a unique character – not only a successful and admired artist, but also a woman with an agenda: she adopted orphans from foreign countries and raised them in the castle, and was also active in the French underground during World War II.
The castle, beyond being impressive, beautiful and full of majesty, also tells the story of Josephine Baker (Until we visited there, of course, I didn't know her too well...) And among the rooms of the castle there is an exhibition about the narrator telling the story of her life.
Additionally, in recent years, the castle has hosted a bird of prey show (as is the case in many castles in Europe). During the show, which lasts about 30 minutes and is held in the castle gardens, between 6-8 birds of prey are displayed, some of which are endangered.
