Lyon Airport – Traveler Information

Lyon St Exupéry Aéroport (or LYS for short) is the international airport of Lyon, the third largest city in France, and is therefore also considered an important hub for tourism entering France. It is the only airport in the region, and therefore, in line with its importance, it is also the fourth largest airport in France as a whole.

The airport is located about 20 kilometers southeast of the city of Lyon, and reaching it by car from the airport will take around fifty minutes.

Airport structure

Lyon Airport is divided into 3 different terminals, but in practice only two are used, as the third terminal was cancelled.

The two terminals are connected side by side by a central building. From the central building you will find a footbridge that connects to the Gare de Lyon Saint-Exupéry high-speed train station.

It is worth knowing that the train station not only connects to the city itself, but also to other cities in France and between them. Paris.

Transportation to and from Vamilyon

Public Transport

Lyon Airport does not have a direct train connecting it to the city, but it certainly offers convenient public transportation with buses and shuttles.

You can take a special taxi, but it is important to know that the fee should cost about 50 euros or more. In this regard, it is recommended to check the costs that Uber drivers in the area or Bolt will charge you, as I mentioned above.

A bus, on the other hand, costs a few euros (according to the latest information, 2.1 euros one way). The main line is line 47, which is active all day long until midnight. The last stop of the line is near the tram, and from there you can choose from a variety of stations overlooking the city of Lyon.

Although a train does not reach the nearby city, there is actually a train station that connects the airport with other cities in France, such as Paris.

A trip by special taxi or Uber/Bolt driver can take between half an hour and fifty minutes. Therefore, a bus ride can be even longer.

Whichever way you choose, here I will be happy to detail all the most affordable and easiest ways for you to start your trip.

Uber

An app that has not yet made it to Israel (and it is doubtful that it will), but it is certainly gaining traction in many foreign countries. It is an app whose members are drivers who supplement their income this way, and some have even turned it into a full-time job.

More than once, Uber drivers can be found to be more profitable than special taxis.

Anyone who has already encountered this app will surely know that it makes it significantly easier to find available and fast public transportation. More than once, you will find that ordering a driver on Uber will be even more affordable for you than a special taxi.

A little about Uber: It's a location-based app. You have to download it and enter credit card information to charge for future trips. On the map that opens, you'll drop a pin on your exact location, and Uber will scan and find available drivers nearby. Often, there will even be drivers waiting near the airport.

The app will provide you with comprehensive information about the drivers before booking: price, driver details, vehicle type (useful if you are a family that needs a large vehicle), and more.

If you haven't downloaded the app yet, you can find it here:

Bolt

There's not much to expand on, this is actually another app that is very similar to Uber. Its interface is quite similar and anyone who is familiar with Uber will get used to Bolt pretty quickly. It's worth checking out the app and doing a brief market survey. It's especially worthwhile when it comes to long trips. It's definitely recommended to check out the differences and save here and there on unnecessary expenses.

You can download the app from these links:

  1. Amazing place, I don't understand what you were afraid of? I traveled there back in 1988 with the students of the Israeli school, which unfortunately closed in 2004.
