You can get to Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport (Aéroport de Bordeaux-Mérignac or BOD for short) at relatively cheap prices, and it is located 12 kilometers from the city of Bordeaux, only around a 20-minute drive.
This is a fairly successful choice for those interested in starting their trip in the world-class city of Bordeaux. In its fine wines and wonderful cuisine, as well as traveling in the Dordogne region, which you can get to know In a whole section That I dedicated for him.
Flights to Bordeaux
Which airlines fly to Bordeaux?
While searching Cheap flights to France This may sometimes prove to be quite a challenging task, but the direct flights between Israel and the airport are operated by Low Cost, and this is very good news for us:
EasyJet
It is the main flight and probably one of the only ones that goes directly to Bordeaux. This is a big advantage, but the disadvantage is that it does not operate a regular route.
The Low Cost company allows you to get to Bordeaux at prices that are hard to compete with. Along with the advantage of the price (starting at about 26 euros one way), it is important to take into account that this is a basic cost that does not include additional conditions, some of which are substantial.
For an additional fee, the more popular standard ticket includes baggage weighing up to 23 kg, more flexible booking options, the ability to reserve seats, and more.
EasyJet is definitely a recommended company for flights to Bordeaux, but it is important to be vigilant and read the fine print.
Additional companies that come from Israel to Bordeaux with a stopover, and that operate regular routes, are:
Dutch KLM
If you feel like getting a little taste of Amsterdam before your main destination and also enjoying a quality airline, KLM is a great choice.
As mentioned, with the exception of EasyJet, the other airlines make a stopover. The 2 flights include light refreshments and soft drinks.
You can choose a Light ticket, just note that it does not include baggage or the ability to make changes to the reservation. The more popular ticket is the Standart, which includes a suitcase up to 23 kg and making changes to the reservation. There is also a Flex ticket, the difference between which and the Standard is that in the Flex you can make changes without paying a fee.
Air France
Air France would probably be a natural choice when it comes to flights to Bordeaux, as it operates a route that is active all year round.
In this case, the stopover will allow you to get a taste of Paris, and I would be happy to recommend an article that recommends What to do in Paris with a connection of 5 hours or more.
Similar to the Dutch airline, the ticket options here are Light, Standard, and Flex. The conditions are the same so there's no need to re-extend. I would just recommend always reading the fine print and understanding exactly what you're paying for and what you're getting.
On the flight from Israel to Paris, you will enjoy a hot meal, and on the short flight you can soothe your stomach with a snack that is distributed during the flight.
This is an excellent company, and the flight will definitely be a comfortable and pleasant experience.
There are also many random companies that operate flights with a stopover, and they can be found on various flight search engines. More than once, you will be surprised to discover particularly good deals.
Where should you buy plane tickets to Bordeaux?
You can find the websites where I search for airline tickets for my flights in the article Flights to FranceIt is highly recommended to go through each site I recommend because often times one site has items that are not on others.
Bordeaux Airport – Traveler Information
Information about takeoffs and landings in Bordeaux
You can find all the information, details and tracking of your flight from Bordeaux or to Bordeaux Airport. Link below.
Airport structure
The airport is divided into 3 terminals: Terminal A, which receives mainly international flights (and for the most part, you will be arriving there too), and Terminal B, from which domestic flights depart to the French territories.
There is another terminal called “Billy” and it is considered the base for low-cost airlines. If you use the services of easyJet, this is the terminal you will arrive at.
Transportation to and from Bordeaux Airport
In fact, the journey from the airport to the city itself is quite short, taking about 20 minutes, so if you feel like saving a few euros and relying on public transportation, you won't feel any inconvenience or a huge waste of time.
To ensure you have a soft landing, here I will list all the most affordable options for you.
Uber
An app that has definitely changed the whole issue of special taxis. For those who are not familiar, the concept is quite similar to that of Get Taxi, only here we are talking about drivers who are not taxi drivers but are registered with Uber.
The real catch is that Uber drivers often offer more affordable prices than regular taxis (however, it's always worth checking and doing a brief market survey).
When you download the app, all you have to do is enter your credit card details to pay for future trips. When using it, you just pin your location, the app scans the area and finds drivers with full details including: driver rating, vehicle type, and fare.
If you haven't downloaded the app yet, you can find it here:
Bolt
Another app, there is not much difference between it and Uber, but it is less familiar to us Israelis. I recommend that you download both it and Uber so that you can do a market survey. For example, Bolt can offer attractive price differences especially when it comes to long trips (and the vastness of France can certainly bring us on long journeys).
You can download the app from these links:
Public Transport
The airport offers several bus travel options:
- Bus Line 1 (also known as Lianes 1): A line that connects the airport to the city, and it passes several stops in the city center.
- Bus line 1 together with tram line A: Take the bus to the Lycees de Merignac stop, and take tram line A to the center of Bordeaux. The estimated journey time is about 20 minutes to half an hour.
- Bus 30Direct: Line connecting the airport with Saint Jean train station.
- Train – There is no train that connects the airport directly with the city of Bordeaux yet. The extension to Line A, which I mentioned above, is expected by 2022, but this forecast is based on data taken from Wikipedia and should therefore be taken with limited caution.
Car rental at Bordeaux Airport
At the airport you will find a variety of different car agencies.
If the purpose of renting a car is to take it into the city only, then it's a waste of money. The trip is so short and it's nicer to be passengers rather than drivers. If the purpose is to go out and explore the vastness of the Dordogne region, then it's definitely worth preparing in advance.
You can find all the information on this subject in the article on the website that deals with Rent a car in Bordeaux.
Tax refunds at Bordeaux airport
If you made purchases in France for an amount of 175 euros including VAT or more, then you can claim a VAT refund.
The criteria I know are: you cannot be a resident of the European Union and you must be over 16 years old.
To do this, you must go to the VAT (VAT Exempt) counter located in Hall B, 1st floor. To reach the counter, you must first pass through security checks and enter duty free.
Have you booked a flight and are you preparing for a vacation in France?
Now that the flight issue is behind you, it's time to plan your trip. Since you're flying to Bordeaux, you probably intend to visit it and/or go hiking in the Périgord region. Therefore, I highly recommend reading these two pages, which contain quite a bit of information that can help you plan your trip:
- Bordeaux and the surrounding area – information for travelers
- Dordogne (Périgord) and South West France – Tourist Information
If Bordeaux is just the first stop and you plan to travel to a few more regions of the country, I recommend that you visit the page France And there you will find information about the other regions of France.
Simply amazing!!

Thank you very much 🙂
Hi.
Thank you for the extensive information you provide.
I checked about direct flights to Bordeaux with EasyJet – and they don't have that option.
Because of the coronavirus, there are fewer flights right now. They say that after April, direct flights with them will return.
