What's in the article?
The difference between traveling the Wine Route and experiencing it is all about visiting the enchanting towns and villages that dot the famous route. The best way to do that is to simply sleep there.
One of these towns is Kaysersberg , or “Emperor’s Mountain” in Hebrew. The town seems to have been frozen in the Middle Ages: colorful wooden houses, narrow streets separated by a small river, and ancient castles overlooking everything from above.
Kaysersberg regularly stars in the rankings of the most beautiful towns in France, which is a great reason to make it your base when you travel the Alsace Wine Route.
Where to stay in Kaysersberg?
The town is tiny, so there aren't many places to stay: there are five hotels in the entire town. In the article before you, I've selected recommended places to stay in the town and the surrounding magical villages, which preserve the unique character of Alsace and surround you with vineyards and wineries. I preferred a short list that I stand behind rather than a long list of apartments with three reviews.
Recommendations for luxurious hotels in Kaysersberg

Relais and Chateaux Le Chambard
A warm and luxurious family hotel housed in a magnificent redwood building. It offers a gourmet restaurant, a rich wine cellar and a pampering spa with a hammam and sauna. There are only 33 rooms here on the main street, Rue du Général de Gaulle, and next to them there is an indoor pool, a jacuzzi and free valet parking. Chef Olivier Nasty runs a Michelin-starred restaurant here, and breakfast is an event in itself. However, be aware that the standard rooms are smaller than expected for this level of accommodation. I recommend investing in a superior room with a balcony facing the vineyards.
Personal note: This is the most luxurious option that Kaysersberg has to offer for those with a penny in their pockets.
- Indoor pool, hot tub, sauna and free valet parking
- Michelin-starred restaurant inside the hotel
- The standard rooms are relatively small for the category.

Hotel KLE, BW Signature Collection
A modern hotel in the heart of the town that has been redesigned without compromising the historic charm. Spacious rooms, friendly staff and a perfect location near the Christmas market. It is located on Rue du Père Kohlmann and has a relaxation area with a dry and wet sauna and a small gym. You can park your car in front of the entrance to unload your luggage, although the center is pedestrianized. However, some rooms are designed with an open bathroom without a door, which is not suitable for everyone. I recommend writing to them in advance and asking for a room with a closed bath if this is important to you.
- Dry and wet sauna and gym for guests
- You can unload your luggage in front of the entrance despite the pedestrian area.
- Parking is in a public lot about a five-minute walk from the hotel.

Alspach Abbey
This hotel is located in Kientzheim, the village next to Kaisersberg, in an old Franciscan monastery converted into 26 rooms. There is free private parking behind a coded gate on Rue Foch, which is a real asset in this area. There is a sauna, a small gym and an inner garden, and breakfast is served from 7:30 to 10:30. Domaine Paul Blanck is just across the street. However, Kientzheim has almost no restaurants, and there is no elevator in the building. I recommend it to anyone arriving by car and looking for complete peace in the evening.
- Restored ancient monastery with an internal garden, sauna and gym
- Free private parking behind a locked gate
- There is no elevator and there are almost no restaurants in the village itself.

ART Hotel
A family-run hotel that combines art and ski chalet design. It offers rooms and apartments with kitchenettes, and is located just off the town's main pedestrian street. There are only eight rooms on Rue Haute du Rempart, some of which look directly at the castle above the village. Note that the property was previously called L'Arbre Vert and has changed name and management. However, breakfast is served at a fixed and relatively late time, check-out is early, and parking is in a paid public lot opposite. I recommend checking the meal times in advance if you are leaving early for the vineyards.
- Only eight rooms, a personal atmosphere and a view of the castle
- Adjacent to the town's central pedestrian street
- Breakfast at a fixed time and early check-out

Au Petit Paradis
A small guesthouse on the Place de la Sinne in Ammerschwihr, about a six-minute drive from Kaysersberg and in the heart of the vineyard region. Christian, the host, welcomes guests personally and serves fresh baguettes and croissants in the morning. There is a terrace with a grill and an outdoor seating area, and the village itself is much quieter than Kaysersberg in season. However, the coffee machine in the rooms confuses some guests, and this is a small place that quickly fills up. I especially recommend it to those looking for a quiet base for wine touring and don't want to pay tourist town prices.
- A personal host and breakfast with fresh pastries
- Terrace with grill and quiet village away from the hustle and bustle
- Small place that gets booked up quickly, need to book early
Apartments and cottages next to vineyards

Apartment Gaspard & Lilly
A spacious apartment in the heart of the town. Three bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a balcony overlooking the town centre and the green vineyards surrounding it. The apartment is spread over two floors in a somewhat unusual way: the bedrooms are downstairs and the living area is upstairs under the roof. It has room for six people, and the parking lot outside the walls is just a few steps away. However, the living area under the sloping roof is lower at the edges. I especially recommend it for two families travelling together, as the large table in the kitchen is practically the centre of life in the apartment.
- Three bedrooms and a full kitchen, suitable for six
- The parking lot outside the walls is steps away.
- The living area is under a sloping roof that is low at the edges.

Gîte les oiseaux
This cottage is the surprise of the list for me. Two bedrooms, a full kitchen and a view of the town, rated four stars by the French chain Gite. The owners live on the floor below, provide guests with two free electric bicycles, and leave baguettes, rolls and wild blueberry jam they picked themselves at the door every morning. There is parking in a private garage, which is rare here. However, this is only one property and is suitable for a couple or four at most. I recommend booking well in advance, especially during the harvest season.
- Two electric bicycles and a private garage free of charge
- Fresh bread and homemade jam at the door every morning
- Only one unit, booked months in advance

At the 6 swallows
A gîte for four on Rue du Village Neuf in Amersfoort, a few minutes' drive from Kaysersberg. Stephan, the host, opens a bottle of Crémant d'Alsace on arrival and is very familiar with the wineries and restaurants in the area. The apartment is spacious for a couple and comfortable for four, and the surrounding hills, including the Kaeferkopf, offer beautiful hiking trails right from the door. However, Amersfoort itself is very quiet and has no nightlife. I recommend it to anyone who comes for the wine and the walking, not for the photographed alleys.
- A host who knows the wineries and welcomes with Carmen Dalzes
- Walking trails in the vineyards that start from the door
- A very quiet village, without evening life and without many restaurants
Are all the hotels in Kaysersberg booked?
Don't worry, the town is very popular but there are plenty of other great options along the wine route. You can also stay in a nearby town and get there in a short drive: I have separate guides for Riquewihr , Ribeauvillé and Colmar.
