A boutique hotel in a 16th-century building in the heart of “Little Venice.” Combines antique furnishings with modern comforts and an excellent gourmet restaurant. An authentic Alsatian experience at a high level. The restaurant, A l’Échevin, sits right on the water at Place des Six Montagnes Noires, and in summer serves on a terrace on the canal bank. There are only 30 rooms here and a hot tub. However, there are low beams and columns on the third floor, and those who are tall may encounter them. I recommend asking for a room on a lower floor, and booking a table in the restaurant when you make your reservation.

A 46-room hotel on Rue de la Poissonnerie, right in the heart of “Little Venice,” in a historic building that has been renovated to a high standard. It has an interior courtyard where drinks are served in the evening, a sauna, and a small library that is exactly the kind of detail I like in a hotel. Each room is furnished differently. However, be aware of the division between the main building and the suite wing across the passage: the wing has no elevator and the stairs are narrow. I recommend that those arriving with luggage or with mobility difficulties specifically book the main building, not the suites.

A small 30-room boutique hotel on Rue Saint-Eloi, about a five-minute walk from the old town and the Christmas markets. There's a fireplace in the lobby, and private underground parking underneath the building, a combination that's hard to find in Colmar. The breakfast here is considered one of the best in the city: freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit, good cold cuts and cheeses, and rolls baked that morning. However, the reception is not staffed 24 hours a day, and those arriving late need to arrange an access code in advance. I recommend sending a message with your arrival time on the day of booking.

All the units here are suites of about thirty meters with a small kitchenette, microwave and kettle, which makes the hotel a rare solution for families who don't want to eat out three times a day. There is an underground car park, a gym, a small spa and a reception open around the clock. The distance to the old city is about a pleasant ten-minute walk. However, the parking ramp is narrow and there is a pillar in the middle that makes it difficult to exit with a large vehicle. A small design hotel in a quiet alley next to the Saint-Martin church, a few hundred meters from the heart of the city. Each guest receives an hour of private use of the sauna and hammam at no extra charge, which in my opinion is the best reason to choose it. The rooms are carefully decorated with original artwork. However, there is no parking in the building, and the nearest parking lot is at Place Rapp about two hundred and fifty meters away. I recommend booking your parking space through the hotel as well, and keep in mind that the breakfast room here is tiny and fills up quickly in the season.

A beautiful building from 1920 that offers a luxurious experience including a sauna. The hotel provides free bicycles to its guests, a wonderful and romantic way to get to know the alleys of the city and its surroundings. It is actually a small guesthouse with only five rooms on Rue Camille Schlumberger, where the owners welcome guests personally and serve breakfast with regional products. There is also a games room with a pool table and free parking. However, the soundproofing between the rooms is not perfect and you can hear traffic in the hallway. I recommend booking early, because five rooms sell out quickly.

The rooms are relatively spacious for the category, with good air conditioning, a separate toilet from the shower and a coffee maker in the room. It sits near Bartholdi's Statue of Liberty at the southern entrance to the city. However, the distance to the old city is about five kilometers, and without a car it is complicated, especially on holidays when public transport is reduced. I recommend it only to those traveling by car, and suggest forgoing breakfast in favor of a boulangerie in the city.

One of the most popular hotels in the city. Offers free indoor parking, spacious and well-equipped rooms. A solid and excellent choice for those looking for comfort and uncompromising service. It sits in the direction of the train station, about a fifteen-minute walk from the old town, which is exactly what the price allows. There is a fresh orange squeezer at breakfast, and coffee and tea are available in the lobby throughout the day. However, if you are looking to walk out the door straight into the picturesque alleys, this is not the hotel. I recommend it especially to those arriving by car, because parking in Colmar is the really expensive story.

Located in the heart of the old town, near the “Little Venice” district. The rooms are decorated in traditional Alsatian style with carved wooden furniture. A perfect combination of historical atmosphere and central location. The hotel is spread over several historic buildings on Grand'Rue with an internal courtyard leading through to the breakfast room, which is part of the charm. However, the rooms on the lower floors facing the street are noisy in the morning, partly due to the garbage disposal, and some rooms show their age. I recommend requesting a high floor in advance and facing the courtyard.

It also has electric car charging stations, and a parking lot that locks at night. Breakfast is served from 6:30 to 10:00 on weekdays and later on weekends, and includes nuts, seeds and wholemeal bread alongside pastries. However, the hotel is located in the exhibition area and not in the old town, so without a car you will need a bus. I recommend it for those doing the wine route by car and want to sleep without parking wars.

It has 43 rooms, free private parking right in front of the entrance, and a pool table and a seating area in the lobby where coffee and pastries are served even to those who arrive late. The name, by the way, is a tribute to Gustave Eiffel, who likes to claim this area for himself. However, there is no elevator here, so if you have heavy luggage, ask for the first floor when booking. I recommend it to those arriving by car and looking for a quiet base at a reasonable price.

If budget is the first consideration and you still want to get out the door and find yourself in the old town, this is the address. The hotel is located on Rue Saint Eloi, a few minutes' walk from the Toy Museum and the Saint-Martin Church, and there is private parking adjacent to the building. Free coffee awaits in the lobby throughout the afternoon, which is a small detail that makes a difference after a whole day of walking. However, be aware that the rooms are very compact and that the breakfast room is small and fills up quickly. I recommend going down to eat before eight, or just giving up and sitting in a cafe on one of the city's canals.

This building was a malterie in the 18th century, and now houses 47 renovated rooms that open onto a quiet courtyard. It’s on Boulevard du Champ de Mars, a few minutes from the Musée Bartholdi and Maison Pfister, and has a sauna and garden, which is not something you can take for granted in this price range. I like this combination of historic charm and reasonable price. However, the rooms on the top floor sit under a sloping roof and the ceiling drops right above the bed, so if you’re tall I recommend asking for a lower floor. Parking is across the road and is a separate fee.
