The opera Carmen, by French composer Georges Bizet (1838-1875), is undoubtedly one of the most beloved operas of all time. No opera has produced as many “hits” as Carmen, and rightly so. It is one of the most daring yet endearing works, and according to online surveys, it is the most performed opera in the world today. Why?
How did the work that completely failed at its premiere (and caused the heartbreak that brought about the composer's untimely death) become the most beloved and publicized music in existence?
During the lecture, we will go over selected excerpts from the opera, as well as some additional wonderful music by the composer, Georges Bizet, in order to understand the secret of the magic of this wonderful opera.
A few words about Shlomi Keinan
Shlomi Keinan is an active musician and musicologist, teaches guided listening to music and lectures on music in various settings. He has 30 years of experience and work with senior Israeli artists. In addition, he is a senior composer for media - films, television and the Internet, in Israel and abroad.
Shlomi specializes in making classical music accessible to lovers of the genre who do not have a musical education. Therefore, all the content in his lectures is presented “at eye level”, in a light and fluid manner while listening to the music.
