So what is my connection to France?
When I was a child, my father and I used to sing songs in French with the guitar. This is how the connection to music was created, along with The French language. Musically - we sang everything, American blues (Marvin Gaye and friends) and Francis Cabral and chansons of all kinds. In terms of language, my great luck is that when I was three years old my parents moved to Paris and I spent a year and a half there where the language was absorbed in me. This is an age when we are like a sponge - the information is taken in and retained. When we returned to Israel I forgot my French, but with the first visit to France - everything came back to me.
Why did I decide to sing Alterman in French?
Because today I am a theater woman – beautiful words and texts attract me like a raven and gold. One day I met Ran Bagno and the wonderful music that slips through his fingers and I wanted to take part in this magic. When I asked myself what I would like most – to sing Alterman but in French, the immediate answer was. Alterman’s songs seem to invite the French adaptation. Both in terms of melody and because they are so narrative. Whether it is a protective song written for his daughter Tirzah Atar, which is wonderful and moving, or whether it is the singer of the three answers, which fascinates me with the concept that between women and men, and my great challenge will be to turn it into an epic love song and not a chauvinistic song. And there is also that which is sweet and playful.
Places I love in Paris
I love Israel – the warm people, the homely feeling, the food and the sun and the combination of them is who I am. However, I am crazy about FranceThe food, the music, the magic that walks the streets, the directness of the people seasoned with manners and etiquette, and more… That's why I try to go to Paris at least once a year. When I visit Paris, there are areas that I make sure to return to, small corners ofMarais – (Place Sainte-Catherine for example) And most of all, I love going back to streets I didn't know. The most fun thing is to take a bike and get lost... and stop to eat ice cream on the Seine or drink a Diavolo grenadine like I used to.
The second part of the visit is my grandmother, who lives in Cannes. So I take a train to meet her and enjoy the journey. I love trains, and I love the feeling of travel. There's a section of the road where the sea opens up and spreads out in front of me, and that's one of my favorite moments. Visiting her is an experience in itself: she always has small bottles of wine, so usually when I arrive she opens a small champagne and serves it with bellini and icing (there's rarely any caviar) with a salad that has a little lettuce and lots of crème fraîche and potatoes.
And we sit in front of the sea and chat, and in the evening she takes me to eat seafood, and I enjoy watching how she destroys every snail and every clam of every size and shape. She used to make me her signature dish - rabbit stew, but since I no longer eat meat there are no more rabbits in the landscape 🙂 When I told her about the project she was very excited. I hope that the next time I come back to her, I will have an entire CD with Alterman's songs - that she will be able to understand….
